This December Wilks is hosting her show at The Stables, a Cruickston Park guest house. It’s an extraordinary space where major pieces of her artwork currently hang. The building formed part of the original stables from 1792 which has evolved to incorporate its past while merging with the present. Its main characteristic is its longevity that is now honoured with thoughtful finishes and detail. In turn, every soul that experiences this place is similarly honoured. That is the power of creating spaces with good intention.
The same attention has gone into the creation of Wilks’ art. Both the art and the setting are complimentary. For instance Wilks’ collection draws from the black and white themed rooms, visible in the room’s decor. The pieces hanging in this space explore shades, and (characteristic of Wilks’ style) offer a sense of the unexpected. They represent contemporary work, yet are presented in classic form. Wilks frames her work in thick black wood and details them in brass. They appear substantive, raw, yet elegant.
Upstairs, Wilks considers the design inherent in metal and invites the viewer to reconsider this element as a work of art, beyond its typical use as a construct.
And due to popular demand, Wilks will be offering a series of nude sketches and suggestive imagery.
Maus Park adds a further level of complexity to this scene by punctuating the mood with classical work to illustrate the span of time the entire presentation represents.
We welcome you to The Stables at Cruickston Park December 8th, 2024 from
1pm - 5pm to admire, view and purchase any of these originals. If you are new to this event and would like to attend, please reach out to Wilks directly (Info@wilkschaplin.com).Looking forward to it,
Wilks
